Sheldon Fire Company Open House To Feature Burger Meal, Kids’ Learning Activities

Sheldon, Iowa — It’s Fire Prevention Week in the United States. This is the week that the Sheldon Fire Company focuses on public relations and talks to the kids in school. This year, it’s also the week for their open house and supper at the fire station.

Sheldon Fire Company Assistant Chief Brad Hindt tells us this event takes the place of the Firefighters’ Fun Night that they used to have. He says the attendance was dwindling at those events so they decided to try something different.

The event is this Thursday night, October 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sheldon Fire Station, which is attached to the Community Services Center, across the street south of KIWA. He tells us they’ll have supper for you as well.

He says batteries and smoke alarms are your first line of defense in a fire.

Again, everyone is invited to the Sheldon Fire Company Open House. The meal will be served for a freewill donation. Hindt says all proceeds will go towards the purchase of a new gear washer/extractor and updating their thermal imaging cameras.
