According to Sheldon Fire Chief Jerry Meyer, the call came in as a kitchen fire at 3543 Highway 60, about 5:45 p.m.

When firefighters got there, they found that the occupant of the home had been frying something on the stove and the grease ignited on fire in the pan. Meyer says the occupant extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher.

He says the fire company didn’t use any water but used a fan to clear out the smoke.

Meyer says no injuries were reported, but the amount of damage is unknown.

He reports that the Sheldon Fire Company was on scene for about a half an hour.
