Primghar, Iowa — A man who had been charged in connection with the assault on a Sheldon Police Officer early last year has been convicted by an O’Brien County Jury.
According to Sheldon Police Chief Scott Burtch, Dustyn Bergstrom of Sheldon was convicted of Assault on a Police Officer with Bodily Injury, and Interference with Official Acts with Injury.
The charges stem from a February 5th incident that occurred at Campus Cleaners in Sheldon. Burtch says police were called to the business about an intoxicated male who was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. Burtch says the responding officer confronted Bergstrom outside the business, where Bergstrom became more belligerent, leading to a physical struggle between Bergstrom, the officer and a back-up officer who arrived at the scene.
Burtch says the officer sustained some minor injuries during the incident.
A jury trial in the case took place Tuesday (March 15th), with the jury finding Bergstrom guilty on the charges.
Sentencing has been set for April 14th.
