Sheldon Officer Celebrates 30-Years Of Protect & Serve

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Police Department celebrated 30-years of their most senior officer’s protecting and serving the Sheldon Community.

Sheldon police officer Scott DeGoei was recognized at a gathering Thursday afternoon at the Sheldon Community Services Center.  DeGoei was presented a plaque by Sheldon Chief Lyle Bolkema, commemorating his service to the citizens of Sheldon since June 1, 1987.  In presenting the plaque, Chief Bolkema thanked DeGoei, not only for his service, but for his years as part of the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force.

DeGoei tells KIWA that his work with the Drug Task Force was at times very rewarding, and at others, highly frustrating.

We asked Officer DeGoei about how the job has changed in the 30-years since he started his career.

He talked about some of the most rewarding parts of his job over the past 30-years.

DeGoei says the job has had it’s frustrating times, as well.

DeGoei, who will be 60 in January, says that the 30th Anniversary celebration was just that, and that it was definitely NOT a retirement party.

Other Sheldon police officers with whom we talked said they can’t find anyone else in the history of the Sheldon Police Department who spent 30-years on the force.  They said there were several who surpassed the 25-year mark, but their research indicates that DeGoei is the only officer in the history of the Sheldon Police Department to have spent 30-years on the force.
