Sheldon, Iowa — The principal at Sheldon Middle School will begin a year-long term as president of the School Administrators of Iowa on September 1st.
Sheldon Middle School Principal Cindy Barwick says although she is now assuming the role of president of the organization, this is not her first School Administrators of Iowa executive committee position.
(As above) “This will actually be my third year working on the executive committee of the School Administrators of Iowa. Two years ago I served as vice-president, last year I was president-elect and this year I move into the president role. So it’s kind of been coming for a couple of years, (I’ve) kind of been easing into it that way.”
Barwick tells us about the School Administrators of Iowa.
(As above) “The School Administrators of Iowa represents all administrators….principals, central office superintendents, activities directors throughout the state of Iowa. That’s our state organization that we can opt to belong to.”
Mrs. Barwick talks about her new role with the School Administrators of Iowa.
(As above) “My role with that will be just to be the leader with that. I’ll participate with the executive committee, working with our employees who are down in Des Moines and doing all kinds of things…working on different things with standards, with the administrators, working on evaluation, working on mentoring new administrators into our group, all kinds of different professional development opportunities for administrators. Helping to oversee a lot of those facets.”
Barwick was selected Middle Level Principal of the Year in 2017 by a committee of her peers. She has also served the association as a mentor to new administrators and on the Middle Level Principal of the Year Selection Committee subsequent to her selection.
She’s been principal at Sheldon Middle School since 2001, and began her career as a teacher in the Decorah Community School District.
