Sheldon, Iowa — Workforce recruitment is a top priority for many towns, and Sheldon is no exception. The Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation and the City of Sheldon have been working to determine effective strategies in their effort to bring people to Sheldon to fill the many varied jobs that are available in the community.
To that end, they have partnered with O’Brien County Economic Development in order to create a scholarship program that will assist in the efforts to recruit some of the area’s top talent back to Sheldon. Starting in 2019, two $6,000 scholarships will be awarded to eligible participants, allowing scholarship recipients to use the money for debt reduction of student loans.
The application process for the program will begin this Fall and the scholarship review committee will announce the recipients in the Spring of 2019. Curt Strouth of the SCDC says that more details about the program will be provided soon and will outline deadlines, eligibility requirements, and other information about the program.
The hope is for this to become an annual scholarship program. Strouth stated that he’s excited for what this program will mean for ongoing recruitment efforts of highly skilled workers to the area, as well as how this program will tie in directly with their annual O’Brien County Career Day that is hosted in April each year.
