Sheldon Speech Team To Go To Le Mars For State Large Group Speech

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon High School Speech Team will be going to the high school in Le Mars for State Large Group Speech on Saturday, February 4th.

Sheldon’s speech coach, Lissa Lane-Johnson tells KIWA what large group speech is.

She says the district contest was two weeks ago and any group who received a “Division 1” at the district contest moves on to state competition. Lane-Johnson explains that if a group does well at the state contest, they may get nominated to go to All-State in Ames. She says Sheldon is known for their speech teams.

Lane-Johnson says that being on the speech team teaches students much more than communication.

She says she is looking to retire so if all goes according to plan, this will be her last year coaching the speech team.

Tonight (Thursday) at the high school auditorium there will be a speech showcase at 6:00 p.m. Anyone can come and see all of the entries this year.
