Sheldon Summer Lunch Program Is Up And Running

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Summer Lunch Program cranked up again yesterday (Thursday, June 1st), providing free, nutritious meals, in a safe environment, for Sheldon kids.

Program Coordinator Tricia Meendering tells us more.

She says the program is 100% volunteer and donation driven.

Meendering says the Summer Lunch Program began as a way to make sure that kids who qualify for free or reduced price meals during the school year are also able to get a nutritious meal each day throughout the summer months.

She said that, while the program is primarily designed to feed the hungry belly, it does more than that for the kids.

Meendering says she’s been overwhelmed by the support of the community in the form of donations to the Summer Lunch Program.

She says if you’d like to make a monetary donation, just make the check payable to “Summer Lunch Program”, and mail it to the Sheldon United Methodist Church, 506 8th Street in Sheldon.  Or, you can call the church office at 324-4894, and arrange to have someone come pick it up.
