Sheldon Summer Lunch Programs To Resume

Sheldon, Iowa — With the school year wrapping up, the summer lunch programs in Sheldon are starting up again.

The Faith Community Church (formerly known as the Sheldon United Methodist Church) is getting ready to run their program. We talked to Katricia Meendering about it.

She says they’ve been doing the program for quite a while now.

Meendering tells us that over the years, the goal of the program has actually changed.

If you’d like to volunteer, or for more information, call the church at 712-324-4894.

The program at Faith Community Church will start for the season on June 3rd, and will serve until the Friday before school starts. She says it’s hosted in the Faith Community Church, but it is a community-sponsored event. She says you don’t have to make reservations for a lunch count. Just come, and they’ll see you get something to eat.

Meanwhile, the Sheldon Community School District will be resuming their summer meal program on June 3rd as well, and it will run until August 9th. They serve from 11:30 to 12:45, and that program serves from the East Elementary Cafeteria. Use the north door. The meals are free and are for all children and teens, aged 18 and under.

The school’s program also offers bussing to the meals. The children are asked to be at their bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled time.
