Sheldon, Iowa — A Monday afternoon ambulance call for an individual who was not breathing led to the execution of a search warrant on the residence to which the ambulance was called, along with felony charges against one of the home’s residents.
According to Sheldon Police Chief Scott Burtch, SCAT was called to 817 4th Street at about 4:20 Monday afternoon for a male who wasn’t breathing. He says Sheldon police officers were the initial first-responders to arrive at the residence and that upon the officers’ arrival, two occupants of the home reportedly fled due to having outstanding arrest warrants. Burtch says that while officers were at the residence they allegedly observed items that caused them to apply for a search warrant.
Burtch says there was nobody at the residence when officers returned with the search warrant, but he says the female resident, 48-year-old Erin Rooney, returned home during the search.
Court records indicate that the search allegedly resulted in the seizure of more than 5 grams of a white crystalline substance that reportedly field tested positive for methamphetamine, as well as a green leafy substance that police say tested positive for marijuana. Officers also reportedly recovered drug paraphernalia during the search.
According to court records, police arrested Rooney and charged her with: a Controlled Substance Violation (Meth Trafficking), a Class B Felony, for the methamphetamine; 3rd Offense Marijuana Possession, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor. According to online court records, Rooney is scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing on the charges on December 6th in O’Brien County Magistrate Court.
Chief Burtch says more charges are pending in connection with Monday’s incident.
No word is available on the condition of the man who was the subject of the ambulance call.
Monday was the second time a search warrant was executed on that residence in less than a year. Burtch says officers also executed a search warrant at Rooney’s home, as well as another home down the street, back in January that led to arrests of five individuals on multiple felony and misdemeanor narcotics-related charges.
