Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon’s long-time Chief of Police, Lyle Bolkema, is retiring.
According to Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker, Bolkema has given notice of his intent to retire from the City of Sheldon, effective November 27th.
Kooiker says the City of Sheldon is grateful for Chief Bolkema’s 30+ years of dedicated service to the City, including 16-1/2 years as Police Chief.
Bolkema was appointed by the City Council to be a police officer on September 6th, 1989. He was sworn in by Mayor Ray Youngers on September 14th, 1989. On April 4th, 2003, he was appointed as Chief of Police.
