Osceola County, Iowa — With the holidays right around the corner, law enforcement officers are preparing for an increase in the number of impaired drivers on the road.
Osceola County Sheriff Doug Weber says most people think of alcohol impairment, but there are other causes, as well.
Weber says that, while all of his deputies are trained to recognize the signs of an impaired driver, one of his men has had the additional training required to be certified as a Drug Recognition Enforcement Officer.
Sheriff Weber says not only is impaired driving dangerous, but it can be expensive, too.
He says not only do OWI arrests increase during the holiday season, but so do traffic crashes involving impaired drivers.
Weber says you might expect to only encounter impaired drivers at night, but it can happen at any hour.
The Sheriff says his best advice this holiday season, and year around, is to celebrate responsibly. And if alcohol is part of your celebration, let somebody else drive. It can save you a lifetime of regret.
