The “Should I Buy a Business” workshop is the counterpart to this past spring’s “What Is My Business Worth?” workshop. Both have been offered by Western Iowa SCORE/Sheldon, Northwest Iowa Community College and the Small Business Development Center. SCORE’s Pete Hamill tells us what attendees can expect.

He says the Sheldon workshop will be Tuesday, October 27th at 7:00 AM at Northwest Iowa Community College. It will be in Building “C” Room 349.

The same workshop will be presented in Cherokee at their Chamber of Commerce office later in the day at 10 AM.

Hamill says he gives the class his personal endorsement.

Again, the workshop is free, but they’d like you to let them know you plan to attend so the organizers can better plan for materials and refreshments. Those interested in attending are asked to contact Lesa Stofferan at Northwest Iowa Community College (712) 324-5061 ext.195 to reserve a seat for the workshop.

More information from Western Iowa SCORE:

Western Iowa SCORE/Sheldon, Northwest Iowa Community College and the Small Business Development Center are joining together to offer a free workshop to benefit those who are thinking of purchasing a business.

‘SHOULD I BUY A BUSINESS? A WORKSHOP DISCUSSING THE PROCESS, CONCERNS AND ISSUES’ is planned for Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at two locations. It will be held from 7:00–8:30 a.m. at the Sheldon Campus of Northwest Iowa Community College, at 603 W. Park Street in Sheldon, Building C, Room 349. This workshop will also be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce office at 201 W. Main Street in Cherokee.

This workshop is sponsored by the Western Iowa Score/Sheldon, the SBDC of Iowa, NCC and the Cherokee Area Economic Development. Anyone contemplating the purchase of a business is welcome to register for this event.
Mike Schoville, an expert in helping build businesses, will lead this seminar. Kelly McCarty, Regional Director of the Northwest Iowa SBDC stated, “This workshop will help anyone that is contemplating purchasing a business in doing the due diligence that is necessary when analyzing the financial information, the business industry and the market.”

McCarty continued, “Purchasing a business is not just about the numbers. There are personnel concerns, there are concerns about the current market for the products or services that the business offers and finally the question has to be answered, “Will this business succeed with new ownership and management?” Mike will provide great insight to assist a buyer in finding the answers to these concerns.”

Reservations are not required to attend; however, organizers would appreciate knowing who plans to attend to better plan for materials and refreshments. Those interested in attending are asked to contact Lesa Stofferan at Northwest Iowa Community College (712) 324-5061 ext.195 to reserve a seat for the workshop.
