Des Moines, Iowa — A heifer shown by a 4-H member from Sioux County has been named the State Reserve Grand Champion market heifer at the Iowa State Fair 4-H show.
We had a chance to talk with extension Beef Specialist Beth Doran, whose office is in the Sioux County Extension office in Orange City. She spoke to us from the Iowa State Fair, where she had talked to Riley Jansen.
She says she asked him a few questions about his experience and about his heifer.
The State Fair runs through Sunday in Des Moines.
The Grand and Reserve Champion Market Beef, along with 14 other livestock champions, will be auctioned in the prestigious Sale of Champions on Saturday, August 22, at 2 p.m. in the Penningroth Media Center of the Putney Family Cattle Barn. The event is sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement, a non-profit organization established to encourage the pursuit of agriculture-related careers by Iowa’s youth.
