Spencer, Iowa — About 140 people who work in Spencer will lose their jobs by September of next year.
Company officials have announced that the Eaton plant in Spencer will close at the conclusion of the third quarter of 2017, according to Eaton spokesperson Jim Michels. He says they cited ongoing declines in key markets and soft demand for the heavy duty hydraulic pumps and motors made at the plant.
Michels says they will work with employees to aid them during the transition. Employees are encouraged to apply for positions at other Eaton facilities. They encourage employees to work with Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation and Iowa Workforce Development.
Workforce reductions at the Spencer Eaton plant are scheduled to begin early in 2017.
No decisions have been made about what to do with the plant after it closes.
