Sheldon, Iowa — Thanks to the efforts of two Sheldon business owners a World War II era veteran, who is buried in a Spirit Lake cemetery, will no longer be buried in a grave with no headstone.
Mastbergen Jewelry owner Deb Wenzel says she discovered the grave of Howard Emerson about three years ago.
Wenzel says she spent the next three years calling everyone she could think of to get this veteran a headstone.
She says a casual meeting with Goedken Monuments owner Glenn Goedken, got the ball rolling.
Wenzel has high praise for Goedken, saying he went above and beyond to obtain a headstone for Mr. Emerson.
