Hartley, Iowa — While it’s getting closer to outdoor swimming weather, would-be bathers in Hartley still face an uncertain future. About 11 months ago, the new pool was almost ready to open when a fairly large problem was found.
Issues were found with the equipotential electrical bonding inspections that should have been taking place. So, the opening of the pool was put on hold, according to an interview we did with Hartley City Administrator Erica Haack in June of 2022.
When we asked Haack what the current scenario was this spring, we were told that she could not comment on the pool situation, per advice from the City of Hartley’s legal counsel. She referred us to attorney Brandon Krikke with a legal firm in Sibley.
Krikke would say only that there is no pending legal case and had no further comment on the issue.
So, people who want to swim at the Hartley pool don’t know what’s going to happen, and for the time being at least, will need to continue to wait or swim elsewhere.
