Storm Watch Classes Are Monday & Tuesday Next Week

lightning and tornadoSheldon, Iowa — With the coming of spring we also prepare for severe weather season.  If you’d like to know more about severe weather, there are Storm Watch classes scheduled for Monday and Tuesday next week at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, sponsored by the Emergency Management Agencies of O’Brien, Osceola, Sioux and Lyon counties.

Todd Heitkamp is a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Weather Station in Sioux Falls, and will be conducting these Storm Watch classes.  Heitkamp tells KIWA that these classes are no longer JUST for storm spotters.

Heitkamp talks about some of the things you’ll learn during the Storm Watch course.

He says the National Weather Service priority with their watches and warnings is to help protect life and property, and this class will help give you the information you need to protect yourself and your family if a tornado is spotted.

You can attend any of the class sessions, and Heitkamp says there is no charge to attend.

Sessions will be held Monday, April 10th from 7 to 9 pm, and Tuesday, April 11th from 1:30 to 3:30, and 7 to 9 pm.  There is no charge for this class, and you can register for any of the sessions by calling Northwest Iowa Community College at 800-352-4907.
