Northwest Iowa — Iowa State University’s solar-powered car, billed as the “World’s First Practical Solar Utility Vehicle” will be paying a visit to northwest Iowa this coming week.
The car will be making a stop in Sibley as it travels through Iowa’s 99 counties, sharing STEM education, as part of SunRun99. The solar-powered vehicle will be at the ISU Extension and Outreach Office at 110 Cedar Lane in Sibley, Tuesday, June 13th at 4:00 pm.
The car and its crew, called Team PrISUm, will also be making a stop at Quatro Composites in Orange City on Wednesday morning, June 14th, at 10:00.
Later this year, Team PrISUm will be taking part in an international solar car competition on the other side of the planet.
The team, along with their car, will be headed to Australia late this summer to prepare for the race this fall. The car, named Penumbra, will be competing in the 2017 Bridgestone World Solar Challenege, a race across the Austrailian continent, from north to south.
