The Inn At Okoboji Will Not Re-Open

Okoboji, Iowa — A northwest Iowa institution will not be opening in the spring — bringing to a close its over 120 years of history.

The almost legendary “The Inn At Okoboji,” which was originally started in 1896 was sold earlier this year for 5.7 million dollars, and the closing documents were recently signed by the buyers, who are only known as “White Cap LLC”. Jon Hjelm with the ACRE Company, who handled the auction tells us that management has returned all downpayments on rooms, wedding receptions, and so forth. He says they also sent out a letter that they would not be having guests in the summer.

He says it appears that the property, which includes 359 linear feet of lakeshore, will be split into single-family residential lots.

But spokesman for White Cap LLC and realtor Mike Jensen says they have no definitive plans at this time.

Hjelm says if the property does go for residential lots, they will have a great location. He says the views are spectacular with Arnold’s Park Amusement park across the lake. He says the night views are especially nice.

The Inn had 155 rooms and 13 different room styles. The landmark was restored in 1999.
