Two Summer Festivals This Weekend In Northwest Iowa

Northwest Iowa — Two summer festivals in our area are this weekend.

In Melvin, the Melvin Summer Send-Off is this Saturday. Their theme is Smokey and the Bandit. At 6:30 p.m., they’ll have a memorial dedication at De Graff County Park in special honor of Rick Benz and Steven Niswander. At 8 it’s a cruise night on Main Street. At dusk, they’ll have a movie in the park featuring the movie “Smokey and the Bandit.”

Meanwhile, at Lester, it’s Lester Days. On Saturday they’ll have a rib smoking competition, a parade, a fundraiser rummage sale, lunch at the community center, activities for the kids, a car show, live music, cow pie bingo, a kiddie tractor pull, a bean bag tournament, a home run derby, a street dance and more. And on Sunday there’s an outdoor community worship service followed by Shari’s food truck.

By the way, the Little Rock Corn Show is next weekend. It starts on Wednesday with a cruise night.
