Northwest Iowa — And then there were three. On Tuesday, Representative Dan Huseman announced he would not be seeking reelection this fall. Very shortly thereafter, one man announced his candidacy for the soon-to-be empty seat. Now two more individuals have thrown their hats into the ring, and all three are running for the Republican nomination.
Lynn Evans of Aurelia announced his candidacy on Tuesday.
Announcing their candidacy on Wednesday were Mark McHugh of Sheldon and Dennis Bush of Cherokee County.
McHugh works at Rosenboom Machine & Tool in Sheldon. He says he grew up on a farm west of Royal, and spent six years in the Iowa Army National Guard, where he earned the Army Commendation Medal. He says he has had an unwavering pro-life position and is also pro-second Amendment.
Meanwhile, Dennis Bush says he is a farmer and Cherokee County Supervisor. He tells us he served in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He says he is running to combat the state erosion of cities’ and counties’ “ability to tailor solutions to the problems facing their residents.” He says he hopes to improve mental health services.
The District 3 Representative serves Cherokee and O’Brien counties as well as portions of Plymouth and Sioux counties.
