Van Dam Arrested On Federal Warrant

Sioux Center, Iowa — A former Sioux Center Christian School teacher already facing 140 counts of various sex crimes with students — has been arrested again, this time on federal charges.

Sioux Center Police Chief Paul Adkins says that on Friday morning, January 26th, his officers arrested 36-year-old Curtis Van Dam at his home on a federal warrant from the US District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.

Adkins says the warrant is for an indictment in front of grand jury involving the same allegations as the charges that were filed in state court, and involve the alleged crimes of Sexual Exploitation of a Child and Possession of Child Pornography.

Adkins says Van Dam went peacefully and offered no resistance. He says officers transported Van Dam to the Federal Court House in Sioux City where he was turned over to the US Marshals.

Chief Adkins says the state charges stand and that case is also proceeding through the court system. Court records indicate that the next scheduled event in the state case is a pretrial conference, which is scheduled for Monday, February 5th, and the trial, which at this point is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6th.
