Voters To The Polls Tuesday For Mid-Term Primary In Iowa

Northwest Iowa — Voters will go to the polls Tuesday in the Iowa Primary Election to select each party’s candidates for various federal and state offices.

Both Republicans and Democrats will choose their party’s candidates for the United States Senate, and 4th District Representative at the federal level.

The only contested race in Iowa for federal office on the Republican ballot, finds Incumbent Chuck Grassley being challenged by State Senator Jim Carlin for U.S. Senate.

On the Democrat ballot, Abby Finkenauer, Michael Franken and Glenn Hurst are vying for the chance to face Grassley or Carlin in November’s General Election.

For statewide office, each party’s candidate for Governor is running unopposed in the primary. For Secretary of State, Joel Miller is facing Eric Van Lanker in the Democrat Primary. The winner will face incumbent Republican Paul Pate, who is running unopposed, in the General Election. For Auditor of State, Republicans Todd Halbur and Mary Ann Hanusa are vying for the right to take on Democrat incumbent Rob Sand, who is running unopposed. Both the Democrat and the Republican running for Treasurer of State are unopposed in the Primary, as are the two party’s candidates for Secretary of Agriculture, Attorney General and Governor.

In area legislative races, the Republican Primary for Iowa State Senator, District 3, finds Lynn Evans squaring off with Anthony LaBruns. No Democrat has filed for the State Senate, District 3 seat. Iowa House District 5 is a three-way race in the Republican Primary, with incumbent Dennis Bush facing challenges from Zach Dieken and Thomas Kuiper. There is no Democrat on the ballot for Iowa House District 5. In Iowa House District 4, Republicans incumbent Skyler Wheeler and Kendal Zylstra are both seeking their party’s nomination, with no candidate on the Democrat ballot.

There are no contested races for any county office in O’Brien, Sioux, Lyon or Osceola counties.
