Winter To Spring, Back To Winter -All In One Week

Northwest Iowa — Here in northwest Iowa there’s an old saying, “If you don’t like the weather wait five minutes, it’ll change.” The truth to that adage has been evident this week into the weekend.

This week started off with bone-chilling temperatures, but Meteorologist Tim Masters at the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls, says we’ll see nearly spring-like temperatures this weekend before returning to winter.

Masters says the return to winter weather may cause some travel complications.

We asked him what was responsible for the rapid weather shifts.

Here in northwest Iowa the winter temperatures are forecast to last into at least late next week, with daytime highs reaching only into the single digits and teens, and lows dropping into the single digits either side of zero.

In case it’s snuck up on you, Saturday is February 2nd, Groundhog’s Day. Saturday’s forecast for Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania calls for mostly cloudy skies, with a high of 36, which means there’s about a 50-50 chance that the weather forecasting rodent named Phil will see his shadow, dooming us to another six weeks of winter.
