With End Of Federal Eviction Moratorium, Homelessness May Become A Problem

Northwest Iowa — Housing experts are concerned Iowa could see a rise in people experiencing homelessness now that the federal eviction moratorium has ended.

Brenda Collier of Upper Des Moines Opportunity says northwest Iowa is not immune from having residents who need housing assistance at this point in history. Collier says she handled some twenty appointments with people last week, alone.

Collier tells us about those twenty appointments.

We asked Collier how folks who are in need of housing assistance could contact her.

Collier works out of the O’Brien County UDMO office in Primghar. The phone number there is 712-957-1023.

She says the situation is complicated here by the fact that there are no homeless shelters within a 30-mile radius.
