Time Is Running Out For City-Wide Cleanup Days Sign-Up

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon’s Annual Citywide Cleanup is set to being Monday, September 20th, but the deadline to sign up is rapidly approaching.

Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker tells us how to get signed up.

He says pickup begins Monday the 20th, and you should have your items at the curb by bright and early that morning, but not before Friday evening, September 17th.

Traditionally, Cleanup Days were held in the spring each year, but due to the pandemic last year the event was moved to the fall of the year. Kooiker says that seemed to work better.

In addition to Cleanup Days, the Sheldon Fire Department will be sponsoring the Landfill’s Household Hazardous Materials Collection Trailer at the Community Services Center parking lot next Tuesday, September 14th.

Kooiker says if you take acrylic paint to the HHM trailer, there will be a charge to dispose of it. He says that, since acrylic paint isn’t toxic, the easiest was to dispose of it is to let it dry out and then just throw it away.

If you have yet to sign up for Sheldon’s Cleanup Days, you’ll find the form by CLICKING HERE. Just download it, print it out, then fill it out and return it to the City Office, along with your payment, by Tuesday, September 14th.

If you have household hazardous materials that you want to dispose of next Tuesday when the HHM trailer comes to the Community Services Center parking lot, you can either fill out the necessary form when you get there, or you can download it in advance and have it filled out when you go. You can download the HHM form by CLICKING HERE.

If you have any questions you can call the Sheldon City Office at 712-324-4651.
