KNOWLEDGE NUGGET:
We all know about the grading scale, A, B, C, D, and F. Have you ever wondered what happened to “E”, and why it went straight to “F”? Well, the earliest record of the letter-grade system, which was implemented in Massachusetts in 1897, did use “E”. “E” meant you failed, however one year later, it was changed to an “F” because professors worried that students could think “E” stood for “Excellent”, whereas “F” clearly meant “Fail”.
