It’s National Boston Cream Pie Day!
Fun fact, a Boston Cream Pie is not a pie. It’s a cake! It consists of two layers of yellow sponge, or butter cake rather than a pastry pie crust. It was called a pie, because bakers in the mid 19th century frequently baked cakes in pie tins.
Boston Cream Pie was created in October 1856 by French chef Augustine Francois Anezin at the Omni Parker House in Boston, Mass.
Traditional recipes feature sponge cake layers filled with rim-infused vanilla pastry cream and topped with a glossy chocolate fondant, or ganache glaze.
