SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa – Women in Agriculture are invited to attend a Fall Fiesta hosted by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Dickinson County on Sept. 19 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at their office located at the fairgrounds in Spirit Lake.
The program is being hosted as part of the regional Northwest Iowa Annie’s Alumni group which strives to provide opportunities for education and networking of local Northwest Iowa women in agriculture. Annie’s Alumni is a spin-off of the well-known Extension “Annie’s Project” Women in Ag program. All women with an interest in agriculture are welcome to attend.
“Our Fall Fiesta will center around the theme of pre-harvest meal planning and prep,” said Katie Goodell, Dickinson County Ag Program Coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach, who is hosting the event. “We will discuss resources to help with easy meal prep, look at some recipes and options, eat a sample meal and then create some of our own freezer meals to prepare for the busy harvest season. Each attendee will leave with at least one pre-prepped meal.”
Goodell shared that the goal is to have quarterly Annie’s Alumni Gatherings with the host location rotating throughout the six Northwest Iowa participating counties of Lyon, Osceola, Dickinson, Sioux, O’Brien and Clay. Each evening session features a supper and networking time, an educational presentation and a “DIY” or “make-and-take” session.
“With harvest around the corner, we want to help our local agri-women prepare,” Goodell said. “We also want to provide a fun evening of fellowship and food… We hope women from throughout the region will join us or even get a group together and carpool to the event.”
The Fall Fiesta will begin at 6:00 p.m. and continue to 8:00 p.m. Supper will be served, as well as a sample meal prepped and sent home with participants.
