(KIWA Staff Photo)Iowa (RI) — The final day of August is bringing back steamy, late-summer weather, with 31 counties in south-central and southeast Iowa under a heat advisory from 1 p.m. today through 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Meteorologist Abby Wyss at the National Weather Service in Johnston says Iowa is heading into another muggy stretch.
Daytime highs are expected to climb into the 90s, prompting many communities to reopen cooling centers. Wyss says there may be some rain chances later in the week.
Today marks the end of meteorological summer in the northern hemisphere. Meteorological autumn begins Tuesday, while the autumn equinox arrives on September 23rd at 7:06 p.m. If you go by the calendar, fall begins September 22nd.
