(KIWA Staff Photo)Rock Valley, Iowa — Your next chance to help bolster the northwest Iowa blood supply is this Thursday at the Rock Valley High School in Rock Valley.
The blood drive will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., then resume from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. this Thursday.
If you’d like to donate, you can reserve an appointment by calling the school office at 712-476-2701.
Everyone who donates will receive a $15 Scooter’s gift card as a thank-you gift.
Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of the Community Blood Bank, says that every donor represents hope for patients who are depending on the generosity of strangers. He says that the initial decision to roll up your sleeve and give blood can literally mean the difference between life and death for someone in your community. A single donation can save up to three lives and offer hope to a loved one, a friend, or even yourself. Giving blood takes only about 30 minutes, but its impact can last a lifetime, says Versteeg.
To donate, donors need to be in good health, be at least 17 years of age — or 16 with a signed parent consent form found at cbblifeblood.org — and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. A photo ID is required at the time of donation, and that can be a driver’s license, school ID, military ID, or anything like that.
