(KIWA Staff Photo)Washington, DC — O’Brien County will soon receive a grant of nearly $100,000 to boost local small businesses.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) says he welcomes an announcement that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development will provide a $99,000 grant to support small and emerging businesses in O’Brien County following severe flooding in 2024. The funding is expected to create eight new jobs in the area.
Grassley says that the grant will make a real difference for rural O’Brien County. He says he’s glad to see these federal dollars being used to support Iowa’s business owners and bring new jobs to Main Street.
The money will be in the form of a grant to the O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation.
Grassley’s office tells us the Rural Development investment will use disaster funding to expand the existing revolving loan fund for the O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation. The project will help finance local small and emerging businesses.
This project is expected to help bring economic stability and employment opportunities to this rural northwest Iowa county, especially after the floods of 2024.
