Cash Must Be Accepted For Entry to Iowa School Sports

Statewide Iowa (RI) — Cash will have to be accepted as payment for tickets to any sporting event in an Iowa public school under a bill that has won approval in both the Iowa House and Senate.

Senator Tom Shipley of Nodaway says the bill is a response to complaints legislators have received from parents and grandparents.

Representative Elinor Levin, a Democrat from Iowa City, says some school districts have moved away from cash because having a cash box at extracurricular events creates the risk of theft.

Levin says the decision about whether to accept cash should be up to each school.

The bill received final approval in the House this week and now goes to the governor for her signature.
