Statewide Iowa (RI) — A Creighton University survey of supply managers in Midwestern manufacturing plants shows business conditions improved across the region in July and remain solid in Iowa. Creighton Economics Professor Ernie Goss conducts the survey.
Iowa’s “Business Conditions Index” slipped slightly from June but still showed growth. Goss says inflation and the war in Iran continue to drag on the economy.
Federal data shows Iowa’s manufacturing sector has shed 4,600 jobs in the past 12 months — more than 2% of the state’s manufacturing base. Goss says that mirrors the national trend.
Creighton’s regional index found an uptick in economic conditions in three of the nine states surveyed. Overall, supply managers indicated they are optimisitc about economic prospects through the end of the year.
