Spirit Lake, Iowa (KUOO) — Swimming is not recommended at two popular beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes heading into Labor Day holiday weekend — both located on Big Spirit Lake.
The Iowa DNR’s weekly beach monitoring report released Friday shows:
- Crandall’s Beach exceeded safety guidelines for E. coli
- Marble Beach exceeded safety thresholds for algal toxins
All other monitored beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes were listed as OK for swimming, including:
- Ainsworth Beach (Big Spirit Lake)
- Triboji Beach (West Lake Okoboji)
- Pikes Point (West Lake Okoboji)
- Gull Point (West Lake Okoboji)
- Emmerson Bay (West Lake Okoboji)
