(Photo courtesy Sioux County Emergency Management)Hospers, Iowa (SiouxCountyRadio) — An online fundraiser has been established for a Hospers couple following a September 23rd house fire that left one of them hospitalized.
The City of Hospers shared the GiveSendGo campaign, titled “Let’s Help the Burd Family – House Fire Relief,” which is raising money to help Frannie and Kevin Burd as they recover from the fire.
According to the fundraiser, Kevin, who has a disability, escaped the house while Frannie was at work. Organizers report he is in intensive care for smoke inhalation and is expected to go to a rehabilitation facility after leaving the hospital. Frannie is a teacher in the George-Little Rock School District.
Sioux County Emergency Management previously reported that the Hospers Fire Department and ambulance responded to the residential fire late Wednesday morning, September 23rd. Everyone was outside when emergency crews arrived. One person who had been inside when the fire started was injured and transported to Sioux Center Health by Sioux Center Ambulance.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze using an interior attack and remained at the scene for about two hours to check for hotspots and complete overhaul operations.
The Sheldon, Alton, and Granville Fire Departments also assisted, along with Sioux County Emergency Management. Granville responded under an automatic aid agreement.
The cause remained under investigation at the time of the original report.
