George and Little Rock, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Voters in the George-Little Rock Community School District will decide Tuesday whether to authorize up to $14.95 million in general obligation bonds for school improvements in Little Rock and George.

The measure, listed on the ballot as Proposition SD, requires at least 60% voter approval to pass.

Projects Planned at Both Campuses

At the elementary school in Little Rock, plans call for the addition of ground-level classrooms, restroom renovations, heating and cooling upgrades, and a new playground.

The middle and high school campus in George would see improvements to agriculture, industrial technology and family and consumer science learning spaces. The proposal also includes renovations to the kitchen and commons area, upgrades to the elevator and fitness center, resurfacing of the track, and improvements to the bus barn.

Funding the Project

The district estimates the full cost of the project at approximately $17 million. The proposed bond would cover $14.95 million, with the remaining costs paid through school sales tax revenue.

Property owners can estimate the impact on their taxes through a calculator available on the district’s bond information page.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. District officials remind Lyon County that Proposition SD appears on the back of the ballot below the statewide constitutional amendment question.
