Northwest Iowa (RI) — Many farmers in northwest Iowa are wrapping up their first full week of the harvest under dry, warm conditions after recent rains finally ended and fields became accessible for combines.
Gentry Sorenson, an agronomist with Iowa State University Extension, says most producers in the region are concentrating on one crop.
While he hasn’t heard many yield reports yet, Sorenson says moisture levels are running around 10% to 11% and continuing to fall. He says farmers are reporting a few soybean quality issues.
Sorenson says farmers are doing their best to make up for time lost due to rain.
Sorenson says corn harvest activity has been at a standstill across much of northwest Iowa because of the wet conditions experienced in late September and early October.
