Sheldon, Iowa — We’ve all heard that lead is a toxic metal, and we should limit our exposure to it. But some water service lines from the water main to the building are made of lead, and the EPA wants everyone to replace those.
The water service lines from the water main to each individual building are the customer’s responsibility.
Sheldon Public Works director Todd Uhl says many Sheldon residents have probably just received a letter explaining their situation.
He tells us if you got the first letter, you’ll probably get another letter soon too. He says they’re trying to be the “squeaky wheel.”
Uhl says that by 2037, all lead and galvanized lines need to be replaced. If you have any questions, you are encouraged to call the City of Sheldon.
