Statewide, Iowa (RI) – Demonstrations and vigils were held around Iowa from January 11th to January 12th after a woman was shot to death by an ICE agent last week in Minneapolis. Coved Oswald attended one of the largest gatherings, which was in Iowa City.
The event included a silent march and was one of many “ICE Out For Good” protests held across the country. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has said Renee Good was attempting to run over the ICE agent and he acted in self-defense.
Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, a Republican from Marion, was asked during her weekly conference call with reporters why she didn’t wait for an investigation to make a statement on the ICE shooting.
Hinson says ICE should not be put in danger from protesters while they are doing their job.
Earlier in the press conference Hinson said she’s not concerned President Donald Trump’s focus on foreign issues is hampering work on domestic concerns.
Hinson said she and other lawmakers are continuing to work on domestic issues.
Hinson is not seeking another term in her eastern Iowa House District as she launched a run for the U-S Senate after incumbent Senator Joni Ernst said she would not run again.
