(KIWA Staff Photo)Washington, D.C. (RI) — An election official in northwest Iowa is one of two Iowans appointed to a bipartisan national council created under the 2002 Help America Vote Act.
Heidi Goebel, the Emmet County Auditor, is serving on the group, which brings together election administrators from across the country.
Goebel says the council meets monthly via Zoom.
The other Iowan on the council is Sara Doty, the Des Moines County Auditor. The group’s annual in-person meeting is scheduled for next April in Philadelphia.
The Local Leadership Council also advises the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, though the panel has seen recent turnover after one Republican member resigned in April and President Trump removed the remaining Republican and two Democratic commissioners in July.
