Iowa (RI) — With many Iowa school districts starting classes on August 24th, one expert says parents should start adjusting their children’s sleep schedules now to help them ease into earlier mornings.

Julie Trout, a nurse practitioner at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, says bedtimes should be moved earlier gradually.

Trout also suggests practicing morning and after-school routines ahead of time.

Trout says children are often recommended to get eight to 12 hours of sleep each night as they prepare for classes to resume.
