Larchwood, Iowa– A Larchwood teen was flown to a Sioux Falls hospital after a crash near Larchwood on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 7:30 p.m., a 16-year-old boy from Larchwood was driving a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Highway 9, a mile west of Larchwood.
The report says that he went to pass an uninvolved vehicle, and as the motorcycle went back into its lane, the rider lost control of the motorcycle, which entered the south ditch. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, and both the rider and motorcycle came to rest in the south ditch.
The trooper says the teen was wearing his helmet.
The Avera CareFlight helicopter flew him directly from the scene to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
The trooper says the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Also assisting were Larchwood Fire and EMS and the Lyon County Ambulance squad.
