(KIWA Staff Photo)Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Luverne, Minnesota man has been arrested and faces a number of serious felony sexual exploitation charges in Rock Rapids.
A criminal complaint filed by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in district court accuses 36-year-old Joseph Oliveira of acts involving inducing, enticing, or coercing a minor to engage in a prohibited sex act, committing a sex act with a minor, owning photographs of a minor or minors engaged in a sex act, grooming, and lascivious acts with a minor. The number of victims was not part of the report. He was arrested on Friday.
Oliveria was charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, cause to engage, a class B felony; two counts of third-degree sexual abuse-child victim, a class C felony; four counts of possession or purchase of a minor in a sex act, a class D felony; and grooming, also a class D felony. If convicted on all felony counts and ordered to serve the time consecutively, Oliveria could face a prison sentence of 145 years. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of lascivious conduct with a minor.
A preliminary hearing has been set for October 6th.
At last report, Oliveria remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of a $147,000 bond.
