Sheldon, Iowa — A Marcus student is the proud new owner of a classic Snap-on wheeled toolbox from Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) and Snap-on Tools.
After a summer of ticket sales, the first Snap-on Toolbox Raffle hosted by Northwest Iowa Community College has come to a close, and Tayden Hicks of Marcus is the one who took home a toolbox filled with Snap-on tools valued at $3,500.
NCC officials tell us nine finalists were selected through weekly drawings throughout the summer and invited to NCC’s annual Taste of Sheldon event for the final drawing. Each finalist was given a key and the opportunity to try to unlock the Snap-on toolbox. Hicks was the only finalist who is currently an NCC student.
The college says the remaining eight finalists each received a consolation prize from Snap-on, including their choice of a ratcheting screwdriver or a mini Snap-on toolbox. The raffle was held for the first time this year and was made possible through a donated Snap-on toolbox and tools.
At the time of the donation, Snap-on requested that all proceeds from the raffle be used to establish a scholarship at NCC. The resulting scholarship will be available to students enrolled in programs where Snap-on tools may be utilized, including NCC’s Career and Technical Education programs.
Mandy Ounlokham, Education Specialist Account Manager for Snap-on, says that company officials are overjoyed to be able to support tech students with their first ever NCC/Snap-on scholarship, and they look forward to offering more opportunities in the future as the partnership with NCC grows.
Snap-on has been a longtime partner of NCC and serves as the primary tool supplier for students in the College’s automotive, diesel, and heavy equipment programs. The toolbox raffle represents another opportunity to strengthen that partnership while helping make a college education more accessible to students. NCC says they hope to make the Snap-on Toolbox Raffle an annual event.
