Iowa (RI) — The annual Medicare open enrollment period is underway for more than 87,000 Iowans, and state officials are encouraging beneficiaries to carefully review information from their health plans.
Iowa Insurance Division spokesperson Kristen Griffeth says people should check their email for notices about changes to their coverage and read those documents carefully.
Two significant changes are affecting Iowa Medicare recipients this year. Wellmark will no longer offer Medicare Advantage plans, and Aetna is discontinuing its SilverScript prescription drug plan.
Griffeth says those changes will affect options for Iowans who want Medicare coverage that includes access to the Mayo Clinic.
The Medicare open enrollment period runs through Dec. 7th.
