Sheldon, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) has set a new record this fall with 2,068 students enrolled, the largest fall enrollment in the college’s history and only the second time NCC has surpassed 2,000 students.

The total represents a 2.94% increase from last fall’s enrollment of 2,009 students.

Over the past decade, NCC’s fall enrollment has grown from 1,634 students in 2016 to 2,068 in 2026 — a 26.6% increase and an average annual growth rate of about 2.4%. College officials say that momentum aligns with student-success outcomes that continue to exceed state and national averages.

Fall enrollment is one measure of NCC’s growth, but the college operates multiple terms throughout the year. Another key metric is the unduplicated headcount for the full academic year. At the conclusion of the 2025-2026 year, NCC recorded 2,911 students, up slightly from 2,886 the previous year.

NCC’s student success rate stands at 66.8%, compared with the Iowa community college average of 55.0% and the national average of 59.3%. The college’s most recent graduation rate is 63.0%, the highest among Iowa’s 15 community colleges and well above the statewide average of 44.1% and the national two-year public institution average of about 39.4%. The results demonstrate that NCC is not only attracting more students than ever before, but they are also helping them succeed, graduate, and thrive in their careers and communities.

Kristin Kollbaum, NCC’s director of marketing and communications, said the record enrollment reflects both strong recruitment and continued confidence from students and families. She noted that three years of enrollment growth — and more than a decade of steady increases — show the value students see in NCC’s hands-on, affordable education and its strong student-success outcomes.

The numbers also highlight NCC’s national recognition, including being named a Top 20 College for the 2025 Aspen Prize and receiving honors from the Carnegie Foundation for impact, access, and student success.

NCC encourages potential students to explore campus through Find Your Thunder visit days or individual campus visits. Visitors can tour facilities, meet faculty, speak with admissions staff, and learn about financial aid or athletics.
