Sioux Center, Iowa (RI) — U.S. Senator Joni Ernst joined Governor Kim Reynolds in Sioux Center Thursday night for an Iowa GOP fundraiser — the final event in a six-stop series the party called the governor’s “legacy tour.”

Reynolds told the crowd she grew up in St. Charles and once imagined becoming a teacher.

Reynolds, the first woman elected governor of Iowa, announced last spring she would not seek re-election. Ernst, the first Iowa woman elected to federal office, noted she first met Reynolds when both were county officials in southwest Iowa.

Iowa GOP co-chair Linda Upmeyer, the first women to serve as speaker of the Iowa House, also attended the event.

Reynolds has served as governor since May 24th, 2017, the day Governor Terry Brandstad resigned to become U.S. ambassador to China. Thursday night’s venue was the same location where Reynolds held a rally on November 5th, 2018, the day before she won her first full four-year term.
