(KIWA Staff Photo)Doon, Iowa — An Orange City man was taken to a hospital after a crash near Doon early on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 1:40 a.m., 22-year-old Isaac Krommendyk of Orange City was driving a 2024 Volkswagen SUV southbound on Highway 75, about half a mile north of the north Doon corner on 75.
The report says that Krommendyk stated he fell asleep. He failed to navigate a curve, traversing to the right. The deputy says the car left the southbound lane of travel and entered into the east ditch. Due to the steep decline of the ditch, it bottomed out on the ground still traveling southbound and then collided with an uprooted tree. As a result of the collision, the driver’s side airbag and airbag curtains deployed within the vehicle, according to the report.
The Lyon County Ambulance took Krommendyk to Sioux Center Health Hospital.
Krommendyk’s Volkswagen SUV sustained $20,000 in damages and was considered totaled.
Krommendyk was charged with failure to maintain control.
